The mode column would be useful information, even if formated à la Unix, but it is always returned empty on Windows systems;
And last, but not least, the date returned in the dateLastModified is formated quite differently under different versions of ColdFusion, depending on local settings, which makes it practically unusable for any application. For example, for the same file, for three different versions of CF, we get:
- CF 5: 05/23/2001 04:29:10 PM
- CF 6: mercredi 23 mai 2001 17 h 29 EDT
- CF 7: 01-05-23 17:29
Only CF 5 gives an accurate date including seconds, but this detail is lost with CFMX.

CFX_ListDir is an attempt to fix these flaws, and to give more accurate and detailed information, in a consistent way under any CF version (It was not tested for CF 4, but there is no reason it should not work as well).

The main feature in CFX_ListDir are:

All file attributes are returned in independant columns and in yes/no format
All three available dates about files are returned, ie. dateLastModified, but also dateCreated and dateLastAccess as well;
The filter attribute is still used, for compatibility with CFDIRECTORY, but a more handy list of file extensions can also be used for file selection;
More tools for file selection, like Modified Before, Modified After dates, or values of file status like Archive, ReadOnly, etc.

The progress monitor will work under Microsoft ASP or any other COM-enabled server-side processor under Windows NT 4.0 Server or later with Microsoft IIS 4.0 or later.

Progress upload monitor uses a high performance ISAPI filter installed on the IIS and a CFX tag that obtains information about the status of the uploading process. The progress display is programmed in Cold Fusion and can use any presentation technology to provide a feed-back to client's browser. Page refresh, JavaScript, frames, iframes, animated GIFs, Java Applets, etc. can be freely used.

The product also contains a COM-object that provides the same functionality, as a CFX tag. Therefore, instead of Cold Fusion, any COM-enabled server-side application processor can be used.

Filter will block attempts to upload a file that exceeds maximum specified size for this particular upload. Not fool-proof, but usable in most cases.

The main program that uploads the data, doesn't know anything about the monitoring process and does not require any additional programming. Of course, you can use Cold Fusion to monitor any uploads, regardless of the application that actually executes the uploading process. Or you can use ASP to monitor Cold Fusion uploads.

Unlike most known general-purpose upload monitors that try to analyze the size of file being uploaded on the disk (if there is a file at all), this implementation takes statistics directly from the Internet server input stream and does not access any storage devices. The server part of the monitor is application-independent. Therefore, it can be used with all Internet applications: ASP, .NET, PHP, Perl, and others.

The uploads monitoring filter, Cold Fusion CFX tag, and COM-object were written in Assembler and were highly optimized to ensure the minimal possible impact on the overall performance. Absolutely no Java, VB, MFC, .NET, or dependencies on any run-time library.

This is a mini-app that allows the user to upload multiple files with descriptions. This version will upload the file to the location specified in the variable REQUEST.fileStore (defined in the application.cfm file) and simply echo the upload details to the screen. This can be expanded to store the information into a database, file or stored in memory if desired.
